In a bold bid to seize opportunities created by U.S. export controls and China’s intensified drive for semiconductor self-reliance, Cambricon Technologies Corp. has unveiled plans to triple its AI chip output by 2026.
The Beijing-based artificial intelligence chip designer intends to manufacture around 500,000 AI accelerators next year, with as many as 300,000 units expected to be its cutting-edge Siyuan 590 and 690 models.
This dramatic scale-up positions Cambricon to aggressively capture domestic market share previously dominated by Nvidia, whose high-end AI chips have become increasingly inaccessible to Chinese customers due to American sanctions.
