Which narrative feels more familiar? As Frederick Langbridge wrote, “Two men look out through the same bars: One sees the mud, and one sees the stars.” The event, the "bars", is identical. Second place is second place. But your perception dictates whether it becomes mud on your shoes or a star to guide you.
