Brussels tourism: Tagged as the capital of Europe, Brussels boasts a number of attractions to lure the most fussy of travellers. From fine dining and quaint architecture to a vibrant nightlife and it’s many landmarks, there’s something to appeal to everyone in Brussels.

- The vibrant “Grand-Place” is the very heart of Brussels and should be the first port of call for the newly arrived visitor. Many believe it to be among the finest town squares to be found anywhere in the world.

- Brussels is the EU capital, and as such is the location of an increasing number of European Union buildings.

- Brussels gave birth to the “art nouveau” architectural movement in the late 1890’s. This was to spread to many other countries who embraced the bold new combination of materials such as stone, iron and exquisite tiles.

Some examples of famous landmarks you can visit that are a testimony to the movement are the Hotels Metropole & Solvay, Musee horta and Maison Saint Cyr. The Art Nouveau movement was spearheaded by Belgian architects Victor Horta and Henry van de Velde.

- Lovers of architecture, museums and cathedrals will be satisfied by the good mix on display. Aside from the wide range of museums, there’s the “Cathedrale des Sts Michel et Gudule” who’s origins can be traced back to 1072.

Know your customer, know your customer, know your customer. Three very important rules of business. But let me ask you this: How well do your customers know YOU?

Sam Walton, founder of Wal-Mart, asked himself this significant question several decades ago. His answer: employee nametags. So, he rolled out an initiative that required all of his employees to wear badges, the purpose of which was to “help the customers get to know the people they bought from.”

But helping customers “get to know you” isn’t just about names, it’s about information. In other words, it’s about self- disclosure, which is the process of revealing your personal information to another.

This process starts with a small piece of information, i.e., your name. Then, as the relationship develops, it progresses into more intimate territory with the sharing of opinions, preferences and experiences.

What’s more, because of its reciprocal nature, self-disclosure has incredible power. It creates comfort, establishes affinity, helps discover the CPI (Common Point of Interest) and builds trust between you and your customers.

A very popular furniture store in London run by a family took this to a new level. You couldn’t step five feet into their store without seeing pictures of their family. The walls donned clippings from nostalgic newspaper articles and various personal memorabilia that brought the store to life!

As a result, shoppers who walked in the door felt like they personally knew the owners. Engaging conversations about children, families and growing up in London were frequent among the customers. 

And, the emotional connection sparked by these interactions helped the customers feel more comfortable while shopping – which ultimately secured their loyalty.

Not to mention, self-disclosure in reality helps YOU get to know your customers better as well! Here’s another case in point. A friend of my cousin,James,is a manager in a restaurant. He is a master of using self-disclosure to create relationships with patrons.

These professionals are particularly time conscious since they bill by the hour in their own practice. If my book promises to get them 10 clients each month producing $50,000 in revenues, the book is extremely valuable to them. 

If I charge $19.95, my credibility goes down the tube.
Why would someone give away such valuable information for such a cheap price? On the other hand, if I charge them $599.99, the price adds to the credibility of my claims.

Don’t be troubled about charging too much for your service or product. The price can always be lowered to ascertain the best figure for converting clients. It is much more difficult to raise the price for current clients.

It might be an idea to consider offering a free trial or consultation. This increases the perceived value of the service or product. Prospects will view you as credible because you would not give something away if it didn’t work.
